THE CARING PLACE is a nonprofit social service organization dedicated to supporting individuals impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. Serving primarily Lake, Porter, and Starke counties in Northwest Indiana—while extending support beyond the region when needed—the organization provides inclusive services, shelter, advocacy, and ongoing support. Through education and awareness, The Caring Place empowers individuals to build respectful, compassionate relationships and works toward a vision of a community free from domestic violence. Guided by its motto, “Breaking the Silence that Hides the Violence,” The Caring Place is committed to fostering safety, dignity, and non-violence for all.

In the heart of our community, a group of dedicated women are making a lasting difference through service, generosity, and heart. Tri Kappa Iota, a philanthropic sorority rooted in Charity, Culture and Education, continues to live out its mission of strengthening local communities through hands-on volunteerism and meaningful financial support.

Each year, the women of Tri Kappa Iota work tirelessly to raise funds that directly benefit local students and community programs. Signature fundraisers such as the Annual Gala, Bingo Night, and Taste of Valparaiso are not only exciting community events—they are vital to supporting scholarships for area students and grants for local nonprofits.

Their commitment does not stop at writing checks. Members of Tri Kappa Iota roll up their sleeves to serve in person, reading to preschoolers, conducting free preschool vision screenings, and helping deliver meals to seniors through Meals on Wheels.  From serving breakfast to veterans, to cooking at Hilltop House, to partnering with the local parks department, these women show up with compassion and dedication.

Every effort reflects their belief that strong communities start with caring neighbors. Tri Kappa Iota is a shining example of what can happen when women come together with a shared purpose, building a legacy of service, education, and kindness.

A Gift of Hope and Healing – The Cancer Resource Center offers all of its services free of charge to the community. The Center is funded from donations and grants, in-kind donations and volunteer support. Start-up donations were generously contributed by: Community Hospital Auxiliary, Community Hospital Medical Staff, Lake County Medical Staff, NetNitco and Community Hospital. Contributions to the Cancer Resource Center will help patients, their families and friends find the resources and support to cope with the complexities of cancer care.
