Islay’s Barrel began with a simple idea: invest in a child’s future.
In 2012, two years after opening Journeyman Distillery, Bill and Johanna Welter welcomed their daughter, Islay. To celebrate her arrival—and invest in her future—they filled a 53-gallon barrel of rye whiskey intended to one day benefit her education. That idea became the inspiration for something bigger: creating opportunities for children throughout their community.
Today, Islay’s Barrel is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to extending enrichment opportunities to children in Southwest Michigan. Through fundraising and community support, Islay’s Barrel helps provide local children with access to meaningful summer camp and educational experiences they may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy.
Funds raised also support nonprofit organizations serving children in our community, including the Dunes Learning Center and Camp Eberhart.
With the generosity of our supporters, Islay’s Barrel can continue opening doors to new experiences, new friendships, outdoor exploration, learning, and lasting memories for children throughout Southwest Michigan.
